What do you do when life is going along pretty smoothly and all of a sudden you find yourself in the middle of a raging storm - a trial - that came out of nowhere?
That’s where I found myself a couple weeks ago when one thing after another took place in 1 ½ weeks.
First I had a physical injury to my leg which made it very difficult to go up and down stairs.
A few days later a family member became very ill and was rushed to the hospital and is still being treated.
The next heartbreak was when our precious little dog of 16 years had to be put to sleep. Saying “good bye for now”, to your friend and constant companion is never easy.
And finally I reinjured my leg and was having uncontrollable muscle spasms in my leg while trying to work, go to the hospital to visit our ill family member, grieve on many levels and prepare for the Women’s Conference of 400 being held at our church!
The only thing I could do was pray my most heartfelt prayer:
You may be thinking – well, that’s not a very spiritual prayer!!
At times when you are under great stress and overwhelmed, what you need is beyond words. But in those 2 words, you are saying: Lord, I am coming to you for help because you are the only one who knows exactly what I need and how to help me.
Prayer acknowledges that you believe that God hears your prayers and you trust Him to help you in your struggles.
My answer came from the Lord almost instantly through a song that was playing on K-Love!
It was the chorus from the song:
“In The Eye Of The Storm”
By Ryan Stevenson
In the eye of the storm
You remain in control
In the middle of the war
You guard my soul
You alone are the anchor
When my sails are torn
Your love surrounds me
In the eye of the storm
When I heard this chorus, I cried out to the Lord. That’s it !!
I feel like my sails are torn and the raging winds are emotionally tossing me around. I need you to be the anchor in my life to keep me steady!!
The Lord spoke to me over and over again through the song. In the evening, I fell asleep with the song running through my mind and I woke up each morning with the song to greet me. It was a continuous reminder:
“I remain in control of your life, I will guard your soul, I will surround you with my love.
“I alone will be your anchor, I alone will be your strength, I alone will be your comfort, I alone will be your peace.
FIX YOUR EYES ON ME
BECAUSE MY ANCHOR WILL HOLD YOU
AND KEEP YOU STEADY AND STRONG.
ONLY I CAN MEND YOUR TORN SAILS.
Finally, the Lord continues to calm my spirit with
the song and the words from Psalm 23.
The Lord is my Shepherd:
I shall not want (I have all I need).
He makes me to lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside the still (peaceful) waters.
He restores my soul (my strength).
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake (bringing honor to His Name).
Though I walk through the darkest valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil – For you are with me (close beside me).
Your rod (protects me) and your staff (guides me), they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil. My cup overflows.
Surely, goodness and mercy will follow me,
ALL the days of my life.
And I will dwell in the house and presence of the Lord
